Woman in the Circle of Womanism

The Chinese have an ancient saying that women hold up half the sky, but in most of the world, it is more than half. But it’s a matter of great sorrow that being the mother of civilization, womenfolk yet has to live in the dark, violence oriented world with a hostile environment which in fact, drives away the world to the Cimmerian.

Women in a Man’s World

No one has been born as a woman but growing up as a woman and indicated as the ‘weaker sex’. Man’s world forms the definition of ‘woman’ as well as points the circled position for women that can be controlled strictly by man. For which, when a child is growing up as a woman the society turns into an adverse mode for her, all regulations of religion and society stand as a stone to stop her in the way of development. Struggling with the obstacles of the society starts from the beginning of life of a future mother. She has to be acquainted with the separation border of the radical rights between her and her opposite sex. She comes to know that everything in the world is not for her, as she is growing and running through man’s world.

Language of Silence

“Too many women
In too many countries
Speak the same language.
Of silence…”
This is the beginning part of a poem titled ‘Silence’ written by Anasuya Sengupta, a student of Lady Sri Ram College. This beginning chunk of the poem carries the sigh of women all over the world. Women of all age have to take the fate decided by their male counterpart. Women have no speech, if there, it is not accepted almost everywhere. On the other hand, we live in a world in which women do not have basic control over what happens to their bodies. Millions of women and girls are forced to marry and have sex with men they do not desire. Sometimes their destiny is marked according to the wish of men. But who knows the last form of this silence? Won’t it turn to a revolution?

A Woman In Family: A Candle In The Wind

A family almost every time is formed a frame by the sacrifice, dream and labor of a woman. But what is about her position? They are neglected in every sphere of their family life. Women all over the world include Bangladesh have no right in decision making which is an important human right also. Lack of women’s equal participation in decision-making is not only violating their human rights but also resulting into disproportionate representation of women and family issues in public policies as the root of women’s marginalized position in public decision-making lies in her marginalized position in family decision-making. Moreover, family violence, a crucial issue, is a common fact almost every country. For instance, we need not to look so far as Bangladesh is in a counting position for family violence. “A total of 1575 women were victimized due to dowry related matters and among them 1909 were brutally killed”, says a report of ‘Odhikar’. However, situation must be changed. If the candle (women) of a room (family) is lit off by the wind (violence against women), society would be grasped by the dark.

Despised by all, pitied by none

Prostitution, a modern form of slavery, is another war against women as women may be sold for a price lower than that of the ticket of the football arena. Women, engaging in this occupation, is treated with a negative view despite they have been sex workers only to meet up their appetite. It is a matter of great shame that in the society a woman has to share herself in many beds for earning her livelihood, the basic right as a human being. But society not only blames them due to their activities but also run over them with mental and physical punishment in spite of being failure to ensure their rights. They along with their next generation have to suffer social and mental harassment in their whole life. It is really a tragic canvas where the sex workers have no rights even the right to be alive.

Portrait of an Injustice

Rape, an attack on women, is today’s weapon to stop women on the way of development and throw them into the hell. In Bangladesh, from 1 January, 2001 to 28 February 2006 a sum of 5217 women and children were raped. Among them 61 were killed after raped and 61 women committed suicide after being violated. It is quite impossible but available in the society that the victim has to face various harassment of law while the criminals are far from the hand of law. Sometimes rape cases solve in a religious bigotry oriented court. Besides, acid terrorism is another form of injustice against women. It destroys a woman’s life, dream that she makes for her future and finally show the way of darkness in the society. Nevertheless, we should keep in mind that such kind of injustices is not only against womenfolk but also against the whole civilization.

Chorus against Chain

“We seek only to give words
To those who can not speak
I seek only to forget
The sorrows of my grandmother’s
Silence.”

This is a poem by Hillary Rodham Clinton answering of the poem of Anasuya Sengupta. This shows the way by where the women are now going to the light. Yes, time is going to be changed. Women around the world are now coming out of home for their rights. They want to come in front beyond of all obstacles of the society and religion. Women are now marching over the way of development and they are now the member of space conquering team, they are now in the powerful position of media, research institutions, science etc. Hence, there is a ray of hope that war against women would mop up from the society and we can be able to build up an educated and violence-free society for women, as it is very important for the next generation.

It is a fact that millions of women through out the world live in conditions of abject deprivation of, and attacks against, their fundamental human rights for no other reason than they are women. But it is a wrong idea at all. Ipsofacto, I want to draw a curtain over this essay by wishing a collaboration of the world region to ensure a better earth for the women where lies the improvement of our civilization.
